Risk Manager
BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world.BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves.Since 2013, BURN has sold 200,000+ high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized jikokoas â„¢ stoves in East Africa. These stoves have helped 1,000,000+ beneficiaries save $39 million in fuel expenditures and 626,221 tons of wood while reducing indoor air pollution by 65%. BURN currently sells ~10,000 stoves per month and intend to double sales by the end of 2017.
About the role
- The Risk Manager will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within the manufacturing business that involves trading in Pay as you go (PayGo) products.
- This role reports directly to the Finance Director and involves collaborating with various departments to develop and implement risk management strategies specific to the manufacturing and trading operations.
- The Risk Manager will play a key role in safeguarding the financial well-being of the company by analyzing potential risks associated with the manufacturing process, supply chain, and trading of PayGo products, and recommending appropriate actions to minimize their impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate potential risks associated with the sales, credit, operation & manufacturing process along with the risk of PayGo products that may affect the organization's financial stability.
- Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Monitor and analyze market trends, supply chain risks, regulatory changes, and other external factors that may impact the organization's risk profile in the context of PayGo products.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to assess risks associated with production, inventory management, distribution, and sales of PayGo products.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies specific to manufacturing and trading operations and recommend appropriate risk transfer mechanisms such as insurance coverage.
- Conduct regular risk assessments related to the manufacturing process and trading of PayGo products and provide reports to the Finance Director and senior management.
- Collaborate with internal audit and compliance teams to ensure adherence to risk management policies and regulatory requirements specific to the manufacturing and trading operations.
- Provide guidance and training to staff involved in manufacturing and trading operations on risk management best practices and procedures.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, risk management, engineering, or related field. An advanced degree or professional certification such as a Certified Risk Manager (CRM) is a plus.
- Proven experience in risk management, preferably within the manufacturing industry or related to trading operations.
- Strong understanding of supply chain management, manufacturing processes, financial analysis, and regulatory requirements related to PayGo products.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills specific to manufacturing and trading operations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams involved in manufacturing and trading operations.
- Proficiency in risk assessment tools and software.
